Modding Games

Before we start off Modding Games, Let’s see what modding is and when did it start. The word “Mod” comes from the root word “modification” which means modifying something or altering it for a change. The term mods for games as it sounds can be applied to literally anything that modifies a game’s code from the original to a whole new updated state providing new experiences for PC gamers.

The history of PC gaming mods is older than you think, The first recorded mod in my knowledge was for an old 1981 game called Castle Wolfenstein, Modifications were made to its visuals by turning all of the Nazi enemies into Smurf characters.

Now, almost every PC game gets modded by the Skilled artists and/or programmers who contribute in gaming communities by adding art in game with additional content such as new skins for characters or altering game mechanics, animations, improved graphics, and user interfaces to deliver a more immersive experience.

One good benefit of the mod is that, if you have expertise in modding, you can make a change in your favorite game content by contributing your idea and making it more interesting to play.
This is a good way from artists to inspire the official game developers with more ideas that they can add and make PC games more interesting.

DLC Packs VS Mods

Basically, the DLC is provided by the official game developers or publisher. On the other hand, Mods are created by the community and they’re not the official add-on content for the game.

And before I share my opinion on why mods are better than DLCs, Let get a quick overview of a DLC pack.

What Is DLC?

DLC (Downloadable Content) is the additional content developed and released by official developing team of a game to add more features in the original game after its initial release.

The DLC pack keeps the game in the shelf by making it more interesting for players. It usually contains extra in-game items, events, costumes, characters, extra skins etc.
DLCs are mostly not free and are a bit expensive for a small add-on but some packs are made available for free in bundles.

Why PC Mods are better?

  • The first and main advantage is that mods are free.
  • Developed by the gaming community for the gaming community.
  • Everyone can get a chance to share their creativity to make the game awesome.
  • Makes the game more fun to play.
  • Can enhance the graphics with realistic looks.
  • Infinite Possibilities in PC Games.

Only sad thing about mods is that they are not available for Console Gaming Communities.
